lyrics

[Intro | The Five Mindfulness Trainings]
The Five Mindfulness Trainings are guidelines for how to live our daily lives in a way that nourishes happiness and transforms ill-being. The trainings are also the kind of thinking and acting that have the power to heal. You can recite them daily or monthly, alone or with a group, to renew your intentions and as inspiration to practice.

[Verse I: Vagabond Maurice] My perception /
Elevated to another plane, melanated I remain /
Meditative conscious on a higher stage /
Reminiscence on page, ink pen pouring sage /
Piece together portraits of me, woven in poetry /
Peace of mind, blended on leylines /
Discover my altar, divine /
Mended in hues of sky blue / (Yo)
My saffron steps in the five precepts / (Yo)
Peep the process as I pen my progress / In /
Magic, spinning fate in the cadence /
Conscious of my limits / limitless, I’m fading /
Limit breaks, I bare / knuckle box in shadows /
Pivot my inhibition while seeking my inner wisdom /
Painting my intuition with pen, pad and spirit /
Sun, Moon, and Stars / enlightenment be my canvas /
A Garden at the End of the World, we steady growing /
Memos of myself, to share, knowledge and wealth / (So)
(Give Me My Flowers)

[Chorus 1: The First Mindfulness Training | Reverence For Life]
Aware of the suffering caused by the destruction of life, I am committed to cultivating the insight of interbeing and compassion and learning ways to protect the lives of people, animals, plants, and minerals. Seeing that harmful actions arise from anger, fear, greed, and intolerance, which in turn come from dualistic and discriminative thinking, I will cultivate openness, non-discrimination, and non-attachment to views in order to transform violence, fanaticism, and dogmatism in myself and in the world.

[Verse II: Kyd Wah-Lee]
oh the sermon begins, with a young wise man,
with a pen in his hand, resting for a change,
like Obama I stand, with my heart on my sleeve,
a perfected stance. learned how I should love,
stood hand in hand, with the power of god.
that's what perfected the brand. I can tell them to love,
although they don't understand, they never will die,
even if they won't stand. I don't believe in a race,
I believe in division, I believe in divinity are you seeing the vision.
From the earth I was born, from the fires ill go,
I just hope when I do I sanctify Chicago.
Its deeper than rap, deeper than white or black.
the final hours a century I'm just stating a fact.
I love you forever so show love while im here.
instead of waiting until the curtin closes to give me my flowers.

[Chorus 2: The Second Mindfulness Training | True Happiness]
Aware of the suffering caused by exploitation, social injustice, stealing, and oppression, I am committed to practicing generosity in my thinking, speaking, and acting. I will practice looking deeply to see that the happiness and suffering of others are not separate from my own; that true happiness is not possible without understanding and compassion. I am aware that happiness depends on my mental attitude and not on external conditions, and that I can live happily in the present moment simply by remembering that I already have more than enough conditions to be happy.

[Verse III: Sage, the 64th Wonder]
I'm just chillin wit my niggas while we're discussing these visions
I'm sticking by my word
When I say we all gon get it
Watch!
Imma become great
Shoutout my brothers home at Slump.land/
Some DAMN. album dropped and now these others done fam/
I never been
one to give a fuck if it ain't gang shit/
The same lame shit occurs when you expanding lanes quick/
Never using metaphors
Similes or tethered words/
Kickin rhymes
Within height
Of gods eye shifting nights
Gifted right?
Yeah We do this shit
And have been for a while/
Always Back inside the room
At grandmas house while splitting fries/
Broke shit
I know it— but the glowings evershowin/
Watch the internet
Lose it fucking shit when they all scope it/
It's the slumpgang777 — syndicate
Niggas better spin this shit
When we we've got the power perfected we plan to end this shit/
Defend the near and dear/
Hold em down till the ending clears/
I'm sick of daydreaming shit this shit is weird....

[Chorus 3: The Third Mindfulness Training | True Love]
Aware of the suffering caused by sexual misconduct, I am committed to cultivating responsibility and learning ways to protect the safety and integrity of individuals, couples, families, and society. Seeing that body and mind are one, I am committed to learning appropriate ways to take care of my sexual energy and cultivating loving kindness, compassion, joy and inclusiveness – which are the four basic elements of true love – for my greater happiness and the greater happiness of others. Practicing true love, we know that we will continue beautifully into the future.

[Verse IV: Khalil Halim]

[Chorus 4: The Fourth Mindfulness Training | Loving Speech and Deep Listening]
Aware of the suffering caused by unmindful speech and the inability to listen to others, I am committed to cultivating loving speech and compassionate listening in order to relieve suffering and to promote reconciliation and peace in myself and among other people, ethnic and religious groups, and nations. Knowing that words can create happiness or suffering, I am committed to speaking truthfully using words that inspire confidence, joy, and hope. I will practice Right Diligence to nourish my capacity for understanding, love, joy, and inclusiveness, and gradually transform anger, violence, and fear that lie deep in my consciousness.

[Verse V: Vagabond Maurice]
It’s a little cold in paradise / I’ve bloomed twice /
Mud from Lotus paradigm / I’ve moved mics /
Aligning all my notes / rewrite my demise /
Loophole in the sky / star searching divine /
Soul shattering, scatter the / rhyme / Pattern /
Penning the climb / Saturn orbit the mind /
Cadence they shatter with time / Jollof Rice juggle the tongue /
Magic unravel from lungs / Somersault cloud in the sun /
Clarity Dragon, I glide / Floating on these jazz notes,
I chew quotes like ancient text / Esoteric heaven sent /
Buddha breath in couplets / Say less in sentence /
Afrocentric essence / Chocolate hue Black Boy /
Sacred Skin Black Man /
Shea Butter Baby who smells of sun showers /
Griot on the move, singing rhythm and blues /
Samurai in context, a Monk at a distance /
Ikko-ikki uprooting Shoguns in the moon / while I’m /
On this mission to reclaim my energy /
From those who took advantage of my inner ki /
Culminated chi, for my inner peace /
They tried to stifle the grind, but can’t, block my shine / (See)
Back in 09’, I came through with the vision /
Hit the Windy City with good intent and some wisdom /
Humble to a fault, I somersault, through my flaws /
Tumble through the clouds / Icarus, falling stars /
Enshrouded in the roses I wrote, in eulogies /
I found / the poetry, in those, trying to breathe /
Eliminated my cipher, to view, the world clearer /
Enlightenment in my center, to light, a new path /
They call my shit, Jazz Hop, Lo-Fi, or Nerdcore /
Chillhop, Conscious, Boom Bap / just know my /
Backpack Raps adapts murals in syntax /
Stellar in that Black Power / at every hour /
Give me my flowers /

[Chorus 5 / Outro: The Fifth Mindfulness Training | Nourishment and Healing]
Aware of the suffering caused by unmindful consumption, I am committed to cultivating good health, both physical and mental, for myself, my family, and my society by practicing mindful eating, drinking, and consuming. I will practice looking deeply into how I consume the Four Kinds of Nutriments, namely edible foods, sense impressions, volition, and consciousness. I will practice coming back to the present moment to be in touch with the refreshing, healing and nourishing elements in me and around me, not letting regrets and sorrow drag me back into the past nor letting anxieties, fear, or craving pull me out of the present moment. I am determined not to try to cover up loneliness, anxiety, or other suffering by losing myself in consumption. I will contemplate interbeing and consume in a way that preserves peace, joy, and well-being in my body and consciousness, and in the collective body and consciousness of my family, my society and the Earth.
